Christopher Joseph Szebeni was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. His love of listening and playing music started very early at the age of 3. Playing drums was his first adventure and by age 9 he was out on the weekends with his Father playing in a Polka band. When Chris worked on his drumming technique he would crank his headphones up and get to work. He soon found himself singing his heart out along with the lyrics and he and his family started to see he had another talent, singing.
The Growing Years and Boxkar
Throughout school he got involved in theater and drama and also a wide variety of bands. Chris attended UW Oshkosh majoring in Radio, TV, Film and a minor in Music Theatre. The move from Milwaukee to the Fox Valley eventually landed him in Appleton, WI. This is where he and his best friend Bryan Bremer started their original band BOXKAR. BOXKAR is a rock/alternative/pop original band that throws in a few interesting covers throughout the show. They have played many venues across the country including a very important performance at the 2005 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. Chris plans to keep his original band alive and playing on occasions. His love for original music is what keeps BOXKAR going to this day.
Who is Chris?
A quote from “Hey! Hey! Hey!”-Jim Martyka, ALL ACCESS MAGAZINE, LA reads:
Szebeni is a true on stage entertainer. Strutting around with a Steven Tyler swagger and Jon Bon Jovi’s flair for the dramatic, his presence is second only to his phenomenal voice, which (unlike many of today’s rockers) he doesn’t need to hide with grumbles, raspy whispers or technological gizmos. The boy can sing! Quite simply.
RT knew Chris as one of the hardest working musicians in the business. He not only sings with BOXKAR, but he fills in with the BoDeans as the lead vocalist on occasion. He also plays drums with Saddlebrook and sings jingles on the side! Chris won male vocalist through the Wisconsin Area Music Industry twice, and his band BOXKAR won many awards through the years. Chris has always been a fashion statement as well. He claims his Grandma was a snazzy dresser, and he naturally took after her.
A New Adventure
In the fall of 2018 Road Trip approached Chris asking him to join forces with them. Chris said yes! RT has known Chris for about 20 years and has always been more than impressed with not only his many talents musically, but also his love for marketing and his leadership abilities.
Now Chris has turned his love for performance and aims to bring his voice to Road Trip, a band he has known and respected for years. Chris does not plan to try to fill RT’s former singer Richie Plath’s shoes; Chris plans to take RT somewhere new, somewhere only he can take them with his voice, his experience and his love for music.
